By the water, hidden in tall reeds, two people sleep in each other's arms as the sky begins to pale. Somewhere far off, in a street they cannot see, a slow tune starts to play: the same one that once woke each of them alone.
On this rug two figures rest together, drawn in slate blue and charcoal on a ground of sand. Their outlines run into one another until it is hard to say where one ends and the other begins. Around them the reeds rise in long, fine strokes and close like a screen. It is kept, alone, in the inner room.
