Kattha
The piece
Kattha comes from the heartwood of the catechu tree, boiled down until it is thick and dark. On wool it gives a khaki brown that holds in light and in water. This one is woven flat in soumak, so the surface is fine wrapped ribs, not pile. Shown as a rendering. Woven to order in Jaipur.
