Bhitti

The piece

The Dakshinottara Bhitti is a wall laid exactly north to south, with graduated arcs on its face, to catch the sun as it crosses the meridian at noon. Bhitti, the Hindi word for wall, takes its outline: an arch of lime white wool, a scale of ochre ticks around the curve and one line falling to the floor. Shown as a rendering. Woven to order in Jaipur.
