Narivalaya
The piece
The Narivalaya is a sundial with two faces, one turned north and one turned south. From the spring equinox to the autumn one the sun lights the north face, and for the rest of the year the south. This rug keeps both seasons on one oval: ivory for the lit half, slate for the shaded one, the hours fanning from the centre. Shown as a rendering. Woven to order in Jaipur.
