Mehrab

The piece

Mehrab means an arch. Over the tall doors of a palace a fanlight spreads like an open shell. Mehrab takes the whole doorway: a rounded head fluted like the fanlight with a lotus at its base, slim pilasters down each side, and a plain field where the door would stand. Shown as a rendering. Woven to order in Jaipur.
