Nishan
The piece
Nishan means a sign, an emblem. Classical rooms hung trophies of arms and music in wreaths. Nishan hangs the emblems of a Rajput court instead: a parasol, a pair of fly whisks, two standards and a caparisoned elephant, each in laurel tied with a bow, and a sun between them. Shown as a rendering. Woven to order in Jaipur.
