Burnished Dome

The piece

Drawn from the inside of a dome, the field radiates outward from a central gold sunburst in rings of leaf-shaped petals, each ring larger than the last, until the outermost petals meet the border. The ground is a deep oxblood, and the petals are filled with olive, honey, ivory and small floral sprays, so the rug reads as one ceiling seen from below. It suits a square-ish dining room or a study where furniture can sit at the edges and leave the centre open. Hand-knotted in Jaipur from hand-spun New Zealand wool and mulberry silk on a cotton warp, then made to order in any size and colourway.
