Chhat

The piece

Chhat is the ceiling. In a durbar hall the richest ornament was overhead: a plaster rose at the centre, holding the chandelier. Chhat lays that rose on the floor, carved in a single ivory: a lotus at the heart, then acanthus, a ring of beads, and palmettes with lotus buds at the rim. Shown as a rendering. Woven to order in Jaipur.
