Ebony Garland
The piece
The ground is so deep a midnight blue that it reads as black from across the room. Over it, gold, ochre and rust palmettes crowd together on scrolling vines, with a column of larger terracotta blossoms running down the centre line. A thin red guard separates the field from a wide ivory border of large palmettes and leaves. Almost no plain ground shows, so the rug holds its own under a heavy table. Made for a panelled study or a dining room with dark wood. Hand-knotted in Jaipur in hand-spun New Zealand wool with mulberry silk accents on a cotton warp, 6 to 14 knots per inch. Made to order in any size.
