Genda Palmette
The piece
At the centre, a single gold rosette opens like a genda, the marigold strung in Indian garlands, and the whole field is arranged around it in mirror symmetry. Large feathered palmettes fan out to the corners, and two curved garlands of tiny flowers hang above and below. The ground is a pale duck-egg ivory, cool against the browns and golds of the drawing. The border turns marigold yellow, filled with deep brown palmettes and leaf scrolls, between salmon and ivory guards. It suits a sunlit drawing room or a dining room with cream walls and dark wood. Hand-knotted in Jaipur in hand-spun New Zealand wool and mulberry silk, made to order in any size and colourway.
