Pewter Scroll

The piece

Wrought-iron scrollwork forms tall pointed arches across a warm greige field. Each arch is drawn in espresso and charcoal and frames a small fleur, while a second set of scrolls in pewter grey winds between the frames and links one column to the next. With only three tones in play, the rug reads like an ironwork screen or a damask wallpaper, ornate in drawing and restrained in colour. It suits a hallway, a study or a bedroom in stone, linen and dark wood. Hand-knotted in Jaipur from hand-spun New Zealand wool on a cotton warp, 6 to 10 knots per inch, and made to order from 4 × 6 ft up to 16 ft wide.
