Johad
The piece
A johad is a crescent of earth built across a slope to hold the monsoon rain. In Alwar district they were revived to catch the rain and keep it. This rug is one seen from above: the curved bank in ochre, the water in deep blue green with ripples carved into it, and grass growing along its edge. Shown as a rendering. Woven to order in Jaipur.
