Rangrez

The piece

Rangrez is the old word for a dyer. In Bagru, dyed and printed lengths are laid out side by side in the sun to dry. Rangrez lays eight of them together in indigo, madder red, turmeric yellow, pomegranate rust and more: one with tie-dye dots, one with a mud-resist crackle, one with a wave of stripes, their ends left uneven. Shown as a rendering. Woven to order in Jaipur.
