Bagru

The piece

In Bagru, outside Jaipur, printers work in colours drawn from the earth: syahi, a black of rusted iron and jaggery, and begar, a red from madder root, stamped on cream cloth. Bagru is a length of that cloth knotted in wool, small diamonds, crosses and dots row after row in black and red, a striped border round them, and every block's small mistake kept. Shown as a rendering. Woven to order in Jaipur.
