Shyena

The piece

Shyena is the falcon. For the grandest of the fire rites the altar was built of bricks, in five layers, in the shape of a falcon, and the texts choose the falcon because it is the best of flyers. Shyena is cut to a falcon's plan, wings, tail and head, and every part of it is a floor of bricks in madder, terracotta, ochre, indigo and cream. Shown as a rendering. Woven to order in Jaipur.
