Vedi

The piece

The great altar ground of the Vedic rite, the mahavedi, was not a square but a trapezium: 24 units across the front, 30 across the back and 36 from end to end along its east west line. Vedi is cut to that figure in undyed wool, its centre line carved down its length with a peg at each end, and the outline drawn inward three times. Shown as a rendering. Woven to order in Jaipur.
