Patang

The piece

On Makar Sankranti, in the middle of January, Jaipur goes up to its rooftops and fills the sky with kites until the sun sets. A fighter kite is a rhombus held taut by a spine and a bow. Patang is cut to that rhombus, its four panels in magenta, marigold, emerald and violet, the spine and bow drawn in indigo and a patch at the tail. Shown as a rendering. Woven to order in Jaipur.
