Jhaad

The piece

Jhaad fanoos is the old word for a chandelier. At Jai Vilas in Gwalior, two of them, three and a half tonnes each, hang in the durbar hall. Jhaad is the view straight up into one: tier after tier of crystal in silver silk on midnight indigo, from a saffron lotus out to a ring of pink acanthus. Shown as a rendering. Woven to order in Jaipur.
