Ruby Abrash
The piece
Ruby, rust and oxblood wash across this field in broken patches, the colour shifting from one area to the next the way abrash does on an old rug, here pushed much further. Over it float mirrored foliate ornaments in ivory and pale gold, a damask pattern partly worn away, so some motifs are whole and others only fragments. There is no border; the design runs to the edge. It reads as contemporary while keeping a classical source. Suited to a loft, a white-walled living room, or a dining room with plain oak. Hand-knotted in Jaipur in hand-spun New Zealand wool with mulberry silk accents on a cotton warp, made to order in any size and colourway.
